Fuzzy Duck: Official Rules
- Players
- 4+
- Equipment
- None
Objective
Say two words in the right order, in the right direction, at speed.
Setup
Four or more players sit in a circle. Choose a first player and a direction.
Official Rules
Rule 1. The phrases
Rule 1.1. The first player says "Fuzzy Duck." The next player in the direction of play says "Fuzzy Duck," and so on around the circle.
Rule 1.2. Instead of "Fuzzy Duck," any player on their turn may ask "Does he?" Play reverses direction, and the phrase becomes "Ducky Fuzz."
Rule 1.3. Any player on their turn may ask "Does he?" again. Play reverses again, and the phrase switches back.
Rule 2. Mistakes
Rule 2.1. A player drinks for saying the wrong phrase, speaking out of turn, hesitating too long, or saying anything other than the two correct words in the correct order.
Rule 2.2. After a mistake, the player who made it starts again with "Fuzzy Duck."
House Rules Register
- A time limit of two seconds per turn. Approved.
- "Does he?" may not be asked twice in a row. Approved.
- A third phrase is added. Commissioner's Discretion. The Commission has found two to be sufficient.
Official Rulings
A player says the words in the right order but with the letters rearranged. Mistake? Yes. That is the entire game.
A player laughs at someone else's mistake and misses their own turn. Drink? Yes. Laughing is not one of the two words.
Penalties and Signals
- Mistake. Penalty: one drink. Signal: drink (Provision 7.1).
- Reverse. Signal: the Official turns one hand over, palm up, toward the new direction.
From the Archives
Fuzzy Duck is a game about pronunciation under pressure. It is the only game in the Commission's archive in which every ruling has been about a single word, and the Commission has chosen not to reproduce any of them here.
Zero-Proof Option
Play with any non-alcoholic drink. The words remain difficult.
