Official ruling
Beer Die vs. Snappa
The Question
One table calls it Beer Die. Another calls it Snappa. Are they the same game, and whose rules apply?
Review
The Commission reviewed both. Each is played two on two at a long table, with a die tossed high, a cup at each corner and a strict rule about the number five. Each has its partisans, and each set of partisans believes the other game is a variant of theirs.
The differences the Commission could confirm are these: Snappa is played seated, with a chair at each corner, and many Snappa tables award a point when the die comes to rest on the table showing a five. Beer Die is played standing.
The Ruling
After review, the ruling on the field is as follows. Beer Die and Snappa are the same game, played at different heights. The official rules are the Beer Die rules in this book, with Snappa as a Sanctioned Variant.
At a Snappa table, players remain seated. A Snappa player who stands to make a catch has begun playing Beer Die, and the catch does not count.
The Commission takes no position on which game came first. It has been asked to, frequently and loudly.
The ruling stands.
Signal
The Official points at a chair, then at the floor.
