Re-Racks
The Question
When may a team ask for a re-rack, how many does it get, and what shapes are allowed?
Review
The Commission found three common practices: re-racks at any time, re-racks only at certain cup counts, and re-racks requested so often that the game becomes an exercise in furniture arrangement. It also found that teams frequently request formations that the cups on the table cannot form.
The Ruling
After review, the ruling on the field is as follows. Each team may request two re-racks per game. A team requests a re-rack before its own turn, for the cups it is about to shoot at. The defending team performs it.
Any formation is permitted, provided every cup touches another and all cups stay within the area of the original triangle. Common formations include:
- Triangle: three or six cups.
- Diamond: four cups.
- Line: two or three cups, pointed at the shooting team.
When a single cup remains, it is moved to the center of the back row. This is automatic and does not count as a re-rack.
A re-rack may not be requested during redemption or overtime.
The ruling stands.
